Assessment and tests

Information about Assessments and Tests

Throughout Nursery and Reception (The Foundation Stage), staff make observations of what children are able to do. These are recorded on The Foundation Stage Profile. The final outcomes of these assessments are shared with families at the end of the Foundation Stage in July.

In Year 1 (Y1), the children have a Phonics test in June. Parents will receive the results of this in July.

In May, the children in Year 2 (Y2) take part in end of Key Stage 1 tests in reading and mathematics. They also complete pieces of writing that is assessed by their teachers. We also use the optional SpaG (Spelling, punctuation and grammar) tests. Children who did not pass the Phonics test in Y1 will retake it in Y2. The outcomes of these assessments is used to inform the end of Key Stage 1 teacher assessments. Parents will receive a report on these in July.
