E-safety
With increased access to the internet through a variety of devices it has become more and more important to discuss with children the dangers the internet could pose as well as the possibilities it can also open up.
Even with increased awareness of the dangers the internet can pose, children should always be supervised when using and accessing the internet. They should only play on games with appropriate PEGI rating. More information about games can be found at https://www.askaboutgames.com/.
At Waterthorpe Nursery Infant School we take childrens’ safety and well-being extremely seriously and we start teaching e-safety from a very early age. Our strict filters mean that the children cannot access inappropriate material and any online safety incidents are recorded and managed in accordance with our online safety policy. We are aware that technology is always around them and that they need to know how to stay safe online. Parental controls can be set up on home devices to ensure that children access age appropriate content. For more information on how to do this, please visit https://www.internetmatters.org/ , which has a step-by-step guide for many devices and services. Children are made aware of the potential risks and told never to give personal information online. If they see something that worries them, they are taught to switch off the screen and ask an adult.
If you are unsure or have any concerns, there are many resources out there to help you (see the Resources links below). Also, please feel free to speak to any member of staff who will be more than happy to help.
