At Waterthorpe our English curriculum develops children’s abilities to listen, speak, read and write for a wide range of purposes so using language to learn and communicate ideas, views and feelings. It is divided into the main areas of Reading, Phonics, Writing, Spelling, Handwriting and Speaking and Listening. In Year One our teaching is based on the programme Read Write Inc. When children are off the programme they move onto writing using on the Power of Reading scheme.
